Hopkins pictured in defiant mood as she left court yesterday

Following yesterday’s libel defeat in the High Court, a crowdfunding operation to raise money for outspoken media personality, Katie Hopkins, has already topped 11p The Whelk can reveal.

Big-hearted fans of the controversial professional bigot were quick to respond when it was revealed last night that the damages and costs awarded against her for libelling food blogger, Jack Monroe, could top a financially crippling £300k.

We went out and about and spoke to a couple of Whitechapel residents about the case yesterday.

Toby Dell, a 47-year-old bus driver said: “I’ve just lost 70 quid in the bookies and was feeling pretty cheesed off until you told me about Hopkins. Now I’m on top of the world and heading for The Blind Beggar for a celebratory skinful”

His wife, Tracy, 42, told us: “I can’t stand the hatchet-faced bitch so this is fantastic news. It’s just a pity they didn’t give the nasty cow a few years in The Windsor Hotel to go with it”

The 11 pence raised is believed to be the least successful example of crowdfunding since a fund set up to buy a new suit for right-wing pundit and ex-UKIP leader, Nigel Farage, after he was almost killed in a plane crash, reached 3 pence in 2010.
